Betty could have be a satirical cartoon artist. This drawing is perfection. 2018.
Dominant Woman
14" x 11"
pen/ink/marker
1969
A man surrendering to his cruel mistress.
The Nuclear Family
45" x 56"
1964
The baby is trapped within the mother and father's power struggle.
Lesbian Lovers
27" x 40"
1967
My feminist fantasy was that love between women would be equal but it turned out that one was more dominant. Or what we today call being a top or a bottom. Equality continues to be some kind of goal or maybe it's just a myth. At best we can simply agree to take turns as to who will run the fuck.
Mother & Daughter
In the early 60's I was focused on painting the nuclear family in an effort to understand why it continued to prevail because it is so impossible.
Lovers
27.5" x 40"
1964
Part of my nuclear family series.
A Crucifixion
78" x 60"
1964
Another 7 foot canvas that represented the extended family with 3 generations.
Adam & Eve
26" x 40"
1961
This is a 40 inch pen and ink drawing that was inspired by my fairly sexless marriage.
A Pieta
48" x 76"
1964
The dead Christ being supported by mother Mary. A friend saw this as a prostitute holding a john who was exhausted after sex while another customer was waiting in line. She's also holding her illegitimate baby.
Mother & Son
40" x 50"
1969
Another man who married his mother and needs constant titty dinner.
