Betty's New Favorite Vibrator: The Mystic Wand

Here's the link to our newest product we're offering in the Sex Shop: The Mystic Wand.

It's basically a miniature Hitachi Magic Wand that's battery-powered, portable (amazing for travel), a bit easier to maneuver than the Magic Wand, and the same diffuse deep vibrations, except a bit higher pitch than the M. Wand.

Betty loved it from the first moment she came with it and lovers of mine are all following suit.

Nax: The Male Sex Doll

Nax is kind of scary but he is a German export.  Not only is he going bald on top with a long flowing ponytail a la Michael Bolton circa the ‘90s, he also sports a pubic bush that would make a forest jealous.

Although the Germans describe Nax as "a giant of a man with athletic appeal", it's quite obvious that they didn't consult a female focus group.  Men are always so scared of competition ;)

So if you have $10,000 lying around for a sex doll know that Nax isn't always ready to go with a massive erection. He has an "automatically soaring penis" and "artificial automatic ejaculation."

Should I Invest in a Vibrator?

Hey Betty,

Well I'm 19 have had sex a couple of times and can't orgasm. I have been masturbating ever since I was a little girl but haven't orgasmed. Am I doing something wrong? I used to think that I masturbated for a couple of minutes and that lengthening the session would help. This didn't though. Should I invest in a vibrator?

Crank That Vibe!

Betty and I have spent a lot of time searching for a low cost battery vibe we could send off to Africa as part of our efforts with Clitoraid.  We thought that we'd have to rely on battery power but this new toy may be our answer:

Environmentally conscious women are getting a buzz out of a new hand-cranked vibrator that makers say could help save the planet.  The eco-sex toy - dubbed the Earth Angel - uses a small wind-up handle to power up rechargeable batteries inside the casing.

It had originally been planned as a sex aid for the Third World where batteries and electricity supplies are unreliable.

The Double Dolphin Preview

My lover Samantha introduced me to this sex toy. Both my teacher Betty and I have been skeptical of vibrating cockrings and past hands-free clitoral vibrators. This one rocked Samantha. I rolled the condom down, lubed my shaft, then, down went the Double Dolphin. Samantha fucked my cock at the same time she fucked herself and wouldnt stop coming and moaning with her pretty feminine sex-voice.

Hands-free is often frustrating, but this sex toy makes it so Samantha pushes and grinds down against me to get what she wants and needs on her very big clit. Both of her hands could lean her weight against my chest... and both my hands could feel, squeeze, and grip her C+ and gorgeous natural breasts. Lovers across the board are loving both breasts under my control while they ride me and play with clit one way or the other.

Can You Suggest a Smaller Toy That's As Good As the Hitachi?

Hi,

First I want to thank you sooooo much for introducing me to the Hitachi Wand--at the age of 31 i had my first orgasm with the wand! and have recommended it to all my friends. i LOVE the wand. it's the only thing i can get an orgasm with and I'm okay with that even though I konw it has frustrated some partners. Anyway, I am in a relationship for the first time that has me wanting to have my boyfriend be a part of my orgasm--ie., help me orgasm with the use of a toy.

Why Is It That a Vibrator Does Nothing For Me?

Hi Betty,

I am an 18 year old virgin, although I have been masturbating and experiencing orgasms since the age of 8 or 9. For most of my "masturbation life" I've gotten off from rubbing myself against something and fantasying about many kinky topics; I've never been able to orgasm from simply rubbing, there has to be some type of "role" happening in my head as I masturbate. More recently, I made my first trip to my town's Lover's Package to purchase some sex toys. I had been worried that I couldn't orgasm any other way than rubbing myself against something; fingering myself felt good, but never brought me anywhere close to orgasm.

Should I Get My Stepson a Vibrator?

Doctor Dodson,

I have a stepson who is about to turn 16 and I've been a mother to him since he was 12. I never raised a son of my own so I do all the reading I can do. I try and do my best to be support him without judging him. He masturbates and we're all very open about it, his dad, him and I. so I have encouraged him to masturbate. I read your stuff and I trust you and so I encourage him.

Nina Hartley's Love Letter to The Hitachi (and Betty)

To have Nina write her love letter to the Hitachi and mention Betty's bodysex groups the same week we're releasing the Bodysex Groups essay and podcasts - the story of how it all began - perfection Nina:

Thankfully, there are many vibrators available nowadays, many of them well-designed for their purpose: sleek, colorful, rechargeable art pieces that can stand alone on the coffee table looking for all the world like modern sculpture. Those toys are great for those on whom they work, and I have a selection for those guests of mine who prefer them, but the ungainly Hitachi, with its unflattering white plastic housing, remains the durable workhorse of pleasure. It ain't pretty but it sure saves a lot of time and effort when one is trying to get off.

If you're a woman who depends on her vibrator for a reliable orgasm, as I do, then the Hitachi Magic Wand might be just the thing for you. Betty Dodson (www.bettydodson.com), the "Grandmother of Masturbation," popularized them in the 1980s when she used them in her groundbreaking group masturbation workshops for women.

Need Quiet Vibe To Masturbate at Work

Dr. Betty,

My wife and I are newly married. Although we enjoy intercourse a few times a week, she LOVES to masturbate. It gives her a different kind of orgasm she says and it is very strong. She needs to orgasm often and masturbation enables this. She started doing it very young with a girlfriend and it just grew on her. Although she has tried, we both agreed that there's no changing her now and so she should just enjoy life's simple pleasures.

She got used to masturbating around lunchtime everyday with her roomate while she was in college and so later continued while working from home for the past two years.

Will I Become Addicted to My Vibrator?

I'm a 24 year old sexually active girl who's never had an orgasm, neither with or without a partner. If I were to introduce a toy to induce my first orgasm, how likely is it that I wouldn't be able to have an orgasm without the toy afterwards? Would it help me understand what it feels like to have an orgasm so I can better identify it in the future, or would I only be able to orgasm from the toy and never from my partner or my own hand?

Majority of Americans Use Vibrators...Thank You Betty

A recent study by Dr. Debra Herbenick and Dr. Michael Reece revealed that the majority of Americans use vibrators - over 52%.  Here's the email Betty received from Dr. Debra Herbenick thanking her for introducing the electric vibrator and promoting it every chance she could:

Dear Betty,

To see your name in my email inbox is a thrill! Michael and I are honored that you took the time to write to us. It is because of your work and perseverance, your incredible books and videos and workshops that have introduced women to vibrators, that they are as increasingly mainstream as they are today.

Thanks again, too, for writing such a lovely and supportive blurb for my new book, Because It Feels Good. It has an entire chapter about sex toys and, of course, tips on using vibrators alone and with a partner are sprinkled throughout. You have been such an inspiration to me.

I'm glad, too, that you mentioned the NOW conference... I remember reading about your experience there, but wasn't sure how to cite it (we want to reference it in an upcoming paper when talking about the history of vibrators in the United States).

Sex Toys are Painful to Use

I am 71 years old, had a hysterectomy 30 years ago, been off estrogren for 10 years and not had intercourse in many years, and before that infrequently. The last time I attempted intercourse it was painful and stinging. Four months ago I began masturbating (no prior experience) the vaginal barbell at first was painful and stung to insert but soon became enjoyable. With the strawberry vibrator I never had any difficulty with stinging or burning upon insertion and I LOVE IT!

I redently purchased "Smartballs" but have found it stings and is quite painful upon trying to insert them.

Need Recommendation for Cleaning Rope/Leather

Hello Dr. Betty,

Thank you for all the work you have done on behalf of women's sex education. I have been following you for years and I am a big fan or your work. I have a practical question about sex toy maintenance. If I am using bondage equipment i.e. leather or rope in partner sex, is there a specific product you recommend for cleaning the rope/leather?
