I found this video of George Carlin, and I thought it was very interesting that he also thinks that abortion is a women's right. Since that's a theme I've found throughout this website, and this seemed the most appropriate subforum, here it is.

I suppose a few people might find this offensive. It is George Carlin and he talks about religion and conservatives in a negative way. If you don't want to hear views that are contrary to your own, don't click it.

In Arizona, an eight year old girl was lured to a shed by 4 older boys with the promise of chewing gum and gang raped.  Her Liberian parents disowned her because of what they described as the "humiliation she brought of the family" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8168480.stm).  Thankfully, there's been an outpouring of adoption offers and the state is getting her treatment. 

However, as I was reading the story, it struck me that if this little girl was a young woman - say 16 - I don't think the outrage would have been the same.  Her clothing would have been reviewed....every picture on her facebook page would be published in the paper...and if she got pregnant we'd have the same old abotion debate we've been having in this country since it was legalized. 

A South Florida town manager who married a porn star last year was fired at an emergency meeting after the mayor and council members learned about it.  Fort Myers Beach town council voted 5-0 to fire Scott Janke "without cause" after Mayor Larry Kiker called the Tuesday night meeting.

Kiker said he learned that afternoon that Janke's wife is an adult film star, and the elected officials took the action a few hours later.  "At no time did we make a judgment call on the activities of Mr. Janke or his wife," Kiker told The Associated Press. "It's a matter of how effective he becomes after this situation. How much disruption there is."

I just found this item regarding the rape and pregancy of a 9 year old girl in Brazil.  The item is really about the right of the girl to an abortion when she became pregnant from this.  Please click on the link to read the whole article.  Basically, according to the Catholic Church, it is ok to rape a 9 year old, but not to have an abortion due to the subsequent pregnancy, even if you are a 9 year old who is probably not really capable of carrying the twins to full term.
