It seems like vulva art is popping up everywhere and I'm loving Jacqueline Secor's work. Each image captures a "vulva style" and almost all have dangling inner lips.
She began painting vulvas to deal with some body dysmorphia issues she was having living in Utah where there's only one definition of beauty. Looking forward to viewing more of her work.
Betty went from artist to activist because of her frustration with misogyny in the art world. We still have 33 canvases and 200 drawings locked away in storage waiting to be exhibited.
I love this Guardian piece on women in art. We may have been written out of art history but that doesn't mean that we weren't creating round the clock waiting for the world to change. I think we're here:
This painting depicting President Putin combing the hair of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in women's lingerie was seized from a gallery in Russia this week.
Talk about the power of art...it's just a painting yet police were sent to carry it away so citizens couldn't be influenced by it's cross-dressing, gender-bending, pro-gay message.
Just a short post...
Where can I see more of Betty's artwork?!! As a young artist myself, I'd love to see more of it.
I've googled her many a time, and it always pops up with this website (which I love just the same)...but apart from the genital art gallery (again, is amazing)... my searching skills seem to be hopeless this time!
