About to Orgasm...Clit is Too Sensitive

I'm nineteen and after a while into masturbating (unfortunately it occasionally takes me a bit, but I'm guessing that's from being pretty much new to it?) I'll feel like I'm right on the edge to an orgasm- but then it feels like I get way too sensitive to keep going since it gets
painful. I really enjoy the build up, but then it gets to that point that I honestly can't stand it. I guess I should mention that I don't get anything from fingering, I have no toys, and so I use the shower head set on pulsating. I prefer the atmosphere anyway; more secluded feeling or
something to me. It feels like it's definitely doing the job, since I really enjoy it (and pretty much can't get enough of it), until I get to that one point.

Dear ML,

When you feel like you are way too sensitive and must stop, that usually means you have already had an orgasm. Since you are so new to all this, check in with yourself and ask what you think an orgasm would feel like? Many beginners hold an image that an orgasm would be similar to an epileptic fit or at least VERY dramatic. Orgasms can be far more subtle especially in the beginning. See if accepting what's happening as an orgasm changes your perspective.

too sensitive to come?

From a male perspective, I had this problem for a long time. I'd get an erection, start to masturbate, & then the higher the sensation mounted, the more sensitive my penis would get, until I had to stop short of my orgasm. I finally had to change my technique, but the specifics are of no importance in this context.

I've always had that exact problem, though it was never because I had an orgasm. Fact is my clit was always much too senstive to touch directly so I touched it over the hood and I never had that over sensitivity problem again. Hopefully that helps.
