No Date - No Prom

I'm speechless.....we wonder why young people have sex so early, then we tell young women that they can't attend their school prom if they don't have a date! WTF?? Everyone knows prom night is known for sexual activities, all dressed up, drinking, staying out late...so, a few young women don't have dates or don't want dates and they can't go.

"Here's some random sexism for you. A Staten Island high school has banned female students (it's all all-girls school) from attending their prom without a male date. The juniors at St. Peter's Girl's High School have one week to find a boy to take to prom, or they're not allowed to go. It's a new rule that has some parents upset. Clearly someone doesn't really have their priorities in order. But if it's an old school Catholic girls high school (as the name St. Peter's might indicate) then they could believe that a girl's mission in life is to find a boy to marry and begin to bear children, and they'll do all they can to help their students fulfill it. I have not yet been to a Catholic wedding ceremony where they have not put emphasis on the "be fruitful and multiply" part. I wonder if the administration is opposed to pleasure for pleasure's sake and are probably even split on the idea of a prom in the first place.

What's really frightening is when you think of the total lack of sex education probably taking place in that school.

Oh, I don't doubt there's lots of eduation going on. It's just not the kind of education you get from the teachers.
