We are at a loss with chronic UTIs!!!
We are a late thirties(her 37, him 39) couple that has been in the swinging lifestyle for just over 5 years. Just in the last year my wife has had several on and off issues with UTI's and bacterial vaginosous. She will get one fixed and then the other pops up days after that. Our sex life has gone hill severely since all of this has happened. about 6 months ago she did have a cyst removed, by frezzing, and for about 3 months after she heeled up everything was fine. but then our/her problems started all over again. The doctors we have seen give one thing to get rid of the UTI and then she is good for a day or two then the fishy smell comes in affect. Of course this isn't attractive to her or me so we treat that. Then the UTI comes back. We are at a total loss. We will go 2-4 weeks with out having sex, not normal for us at all, just to trying to get her healthy again and as soon as she feels like she is in good shape we have sex and we go through another process. Frustration level is at its highest right now.
My question is, Is there anything outside of medicine that we can do? Can she take any herbs, foods, etc that might change her ph levels to do preventive maintenance on her body. We have been married for 10 years, together for 16 and absolutley love sex and the experiences we have had while we have been in the lifestyle. This is a huge hindrance on our sex life not counting our lifestyle. I am not worried about the lifestyle I just want us to be able to have sex on a regular basis.
We are at a loss with this and hope somebody can shed some light on our situation. Someone please help us!!!!

Cranberry pills for UTIs. I didn't have intercourse or didn't do other things that could rise the risk of UTIs but every time I finished taking an antibiotic for them they came back before the end of the week. Then I took cranberry and d-manose pills with an antibiotic and continued the pills for some time. I'm okay ever since. I don't even have to wash up right after anal play.
I would suggest that you too be treated with anitbiotics...you could very well be passing it back to her everytime she gets healthy.
From Betty's lips
This is usually a nightmare until you figure out what to do. I'm not a medical doctor but I've gone through this many times before. I'd get a prescription for an antibiotic to deal with my UTI's which then caused some kind of vaginal discharge due to the antibiotic messing up the balance of flora and fauna in the vagina. The chart below comes from webmd. What helped me the most was using D-Manose to heal the UTI's. It's a simple sugar in powder form that our bodies can't use for energy so it flushes out the urinary tract similar to using cranberry juice only far more affective.
The doctor will start by taking a health history and asking about your symptoms. Questions the doctor may ask include:
* When did the abnormal discharge begin?
* What color is the discharge?
* Is there any smell?
* Do you have any itching, pain, or burning in or around the vagina?
* Do you have more than one sexual partner?
* Do you douche?
The doctor may take a sample of the discharge or do a Pap test to collect cells from your cervix for further examination.
When a woman has a vaginal discharge she's advised to stop having intercourse. If your partner ejaculates inside you, he could be re-infecting you. Men can also have candida with no symptoms. A good book for a natural approach to healing is, "A New View of a Woman's Body" by the Federation of Feminist Women's Health Centers. "The V Book" by Dr. Elizabeth Stewart, a Boston based gynecologist gives a balanced medical view. The National Women's Health Resource Center nwhn.org is also good.
"I have an infinite amount of patience as long as I get my way in the end."
You're probably already doing this, but it is important that she urinates after any sexual activity. Bacteria can get inside the urinary tract, and the pee helps flush it out (even if her bladder is mostly empty, and it's just a little bit).
This has been very effective for some of my friends with repeat UTI problems
It is very easy to let something like this completely ruin your sex life, and I so understand where you guys are coming from. I have been there myself! What I have found works best for me, in all honesty, is to just relax and not stress about it. As a woman it can make you feel dirty and "slutty," give you lots of self confidence issues. It is so important to move beyond that and realize you are not dirty. This is a common problem that can happen to many women, in all sorts of monogamous and non-monogamous relationships. Once I was able to move past the stress and bad feelings surrounding this sort of issue, I noticed myself getting better naturally.
It is imparitive to urinate after sex, and I have been able to cut down on the frequency of my UTIs by doing this. I was also able to find a doctor by luck who told me that many of my UTIs may have been misdiagnosed yeast infections, so make sure that the doctor always checks a urine sample before prescribing antibiotics. I know that seems like something that a doctor should definitely be doing, but I have had many doctors who did not for various reasons! For the bacterial infections, I was actually able to find a natural yeast infection treatment that also helps quite a bit with bacterial infections because it contains boric acid. Here's a link to the product on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002BB6YQ?tag=savercheaper-20 You can also start taking these at the first sign of iritation and it may help avoid any type of infection, yeast or bacterial, getting worse. The product doesn't work for everyone though, so I would recommend trying a couple of different natural products to see if you can find one that does. I have also found that eating yogurt with probiotics in it once a day has helped me immensly.
