Better Orgasms. Better World.
Why is it that every time Oprah interviews a hot starlet the interview starts with said starlet admitting to the world that she's celibate, doesn't like sex, and is fine with it.
No, these woman aren't fine. Every single person in this world is a sexual being. We're here on this earth to procreate - that's why sex is so central to our lives. Yes, 1% of the population is asexual but you're telling me that Halle Berry and Terri Hatcher are part of that 1% of the population: BULLSHIT.
And let's not forget Star Jones who proclaimed to the world that she has a celibate marriage. What sort of message are we sending to young women? Where are our role models? I'll tell you where: selling out and using their sexuality to get better roles NOT for their own pleasure.
We all need to get off. We all need intimacy. We all need the endorphin release - when you orgasm, you're body releases a concert of hormones that help you relax, think better, and feel connected to your SO. Money, success, social standing...it's just not enough.
Name one male celebrity who goes on Oprah and proclaims that he doesn't feel the need to fuck. We get jamie Fox and his whole pussy fest....Clooney and the list of models he's fucking....Matthew McConnehy and his tequilla drinking sexcapades.
It's just not healthy to constantly be told that women don't need sex. It's like a sickness in our culture and it's getting worse. Why can't I fuck, love, work, play, challenge, and nuture all at the same time?
That's why I love Pam Andersen and Paris even though they fall on the other side of the double standard/sex kitten caricature: because they fuck, make video tapes, and let the world know that they don't give a shit about be labeled a slut. I feel like I'm going to puke.
Actually, as I recall, Paris said at some point after those tapes were "released" that she doesn't actually like sex, that she doesn't like all the sweating and exertion, and she'd rather just "cuddle" on the couch and make out a bit.
If I was the one interviewing her I woulda had to ask "So that wasn't really you bent over and moaning while your man stuffed you from behind in that video?"
I tried looking for the interview, but all I could find was a reference to it. I might try again later when I have more time.
i found this online. i won't judge anyone who wishes to remain celibate, just as i wouldn't want to be judge for choosing to have an active sex life. I do think the major reasons are, sexual abuse in the past, low sex drive and often, as with famous people, they are so self absorbed that there is no room left for anyone else or they have spent so much of their life focusing on their exterior that they have forgotten what is inside them.
i have taken "breaks from sex" in my life while working through issues, but even then, i still took care of my needs!
A list of some famous self proclaimed celibates:
Cliff "no soul" Richard, purveyor of family-acceptable and totally non-threatening pop tunes, is one of the most vocal celibates of modern
times. It may well be this fact which has held back the cause of open celibacy.
Cosmopolitan agony aunt Irma Kurtz has been a celibate for years
and years with no regrets. Perhaps a Cosmo reader can fill me in with some
more specifics.
Simone Weil was one of the best known European political thinkers
of the 20th Century and, as far as anybody knows, a lifelong celibate.
Also rumoured to be a lifelong celibate was the Dutch philosopher and
theologian Baruch Spinoza.
Dr. Temple Grandin, the American academic whose empathy with
animals has led to her being a highly successful designer of humane animal
management systems, is a voluntary celibate. The reasons are too complex
to go into here, but those interested can read the final chapter of Oliver
Sacks' "An Anthropologist on Mars".
Stevie Smith, poet and novelist, was celibate all her life, after
sampling and rejecting romance and sex in her youth. She was fiercely
critical of those who thought that her life must be emotionally
impoverished by not having sexual relationships anymore, emphasizing
the depth of her friendships, especially her bond with the aunt with
whom she lived.
Pitt the Younger, legendary British Prime Minister, is generally
agreed by historians to have died a virgin.
Nikolai Tesla, who developed the system of alternating electrical
current that is the standard nowadays worldwide, was a self-proclaimed
celibate.
Carole Channing, the Broadway musical star of "Hello Dolly" fame
was celibate in her marriage to Charles Lowe for 41 years.
Morrissey, the British singer and former member of the Smiths, was
openly celibate for several years.
G. H. Hardy, twentieth century English mathematician who made ample
contributions in number theory and who co-authored the famous
Hardy-Weinberg law of population genetics. He was also the mentor of
legendary prodigy Srinivasa Ramanujan (who was probably also a life-long
celibate).
Paul Erdos, the most prolific mathematician in history, having
participated in more then 20,000 papers. He was born in Hungary but
never held a home or a job, relying instead on the hospitality of other
mathematicians with whom he collaborated and on the money he received
for conferences. See _The Man Who Loved Only Numbers_, by Paul Hoffman
(Hyperion, 1998).
Antonio Gaudi, the spanish architect most famous for the Segrada
Familia in Barcelona, is said to never have had sex.
Alan Christie Wilson of the blues-rock group Canned Heat was a
voluntary celibate in the later part of his life, according to his
authorised biographer Krisna Radha. The reasons seem to be a mix of
medical, spiritual and issues from childhood.
"Divorced novelist Beryl Bainbridge revealed that she gave up men
because, when she was 56, she felt having a physical relationship with a
man was 'no longer dignified', and anyway her life was far too full of
other things like writing, children and friends." - quote from a Daily
Mail article by Jenny Nisbet (approx.) 1st December 1998.
I don't believe that all these stars are celibate. I do know that it was recently released that Teri Hatcher was molested as a child by an uncle, I think. So it's possible that she's got issues and doesn't have sex; at least not presently, she obviously did at some point unless her daughter was concieved through immaculate conception. I think that what these starlets are up to is that they're sick of the opinion many have that they all are whores. Which in my opinion, is ridiculous. If you want to fuck, FUCK! Who cares? And who are we to judge? I enjoy sex as much as the next person, and trust me, if I were rich and famous and had access to some of the people they do (men and women both) I'd be the biggest whore in Hollywood. (Kiera Knightly...grr. Something about that girl. I bet she's an animal in the sack.)
That reminds me of a joke, actually.
A girl goes to hollywood hoping to become a movie star, and after countless spots on commercials, and as background in tv shows and movies, she gets more and more desperate.
She finally gets a phone call from her agent, saying that she is invited to a party where a lot of big name producers will be present, and she REALLY has to put her best foot forward to get their attention.
She goes to the party, but can't seem to make any progress. She's so desperate to become a big star that she decides to try seducing one of the producers. She struts over to one of the producers, grabs his sleeve, and gently pulls him behind a pillar. "I am going to give you the best blowjob of your life." she tells him.
He says "Yeah, but what's in it for me?"
I can like sex sometimes, but I never want it. My boyfriend deals with it, but we only have sex once a month or something, and never at my initiation. I can get turned on and am not asexual, but I really don't like it. It doesn't get me going, and even when I orgasm, I still don't really care. It's not enough motivation to make me want to do it.
So I don't think that it's that wierd that Halle and Terri don't really care. They aren't celibate, they just don't care.
