Every Sperm is Sacred

A pro-choice Democratic legislator has taken a novel approach to fighting an Oklahoma “personhood” bill. According to the blog Jezebel, State Senator Constance Johnson of Oklahoma City has introduced a measure that calls to mind the famous Monty Python “Every Sperm is Sacred” sketch from the 1983 film “The Meaning of Life.”
The concept of “personhood” defines human life as beginning at the moment of conception and, in the case of Oklahoma’s pending Senate Bill 1433, says that the resulting fetus “at every stage of development (has) all the rights, privileges, and immunities available to other persons, citizens, and residents of this state.” If Senate Bill 1433 were to become law, all forms of abortion and some forms of contraception would be considered murder and therefore illegal.
Sen. Johnson, who represents Oklahoma’s 48th District has introduced an amendment to the bill mandating that the same rights and benefits be granted to spermatozoa, writing, “However, any action in which a man ejaculates or otherwise deposits semen anywhere but in a woman’s vagina shall be interpreted and construed as an action against an unborn child.”

This would outlaw masturbation by men, anal sex, sex with condoms, all forms of fellatio to completion, as well as numerous other acts. She later withdrew the measure, but stated that she had inserted it to highlight the absurdity and sexism inherent in the current bill.
A second legislator, Democrat Jim Wilson attempted to introduce an amendment stating that all men would be responsible for the full support and well-being of any woman carrying their child for the duration of the pregnancy, including housing, food, transportation, and all medical costs. The amendment failed.
A similar bill to Senate Bill 1433 was defeated at the polls in Mississippi in November.

if every sperm is sacred, so are all eggs. it than must be illegal to have your menstruation, as it expells the unused egg cell from the uterus.
thus, as soon as a woman becomes fertile, she must be impregnated or be convicted for murder. and all women would have to through their lives constantly pregnant.

Yeppers...80% of all fertilized eggs are flushed out during our period.  So as George Carlin says: That makes women who have more than one period...serial killers!   lol

I suggest a new Oklahoma

I suggest a new Oklahoma Senate Bill 1434, that a woman  “at every stage of development has all the rights, privileges, and immunities available to other persons, namely men and further recognise the existing legal fact that her uterous is her soveriegn domain, that no external force can enter or perform medical procedures on without her informed consent and that not assisting an elective termination is a willful neglect of her health and safety  and so like not assisting anyone with a medical condition reprsents a  physical assualt.

Life Begins at Ejaculation: Satire Falls Flat

As a female I loved the humor and wit of this amendment however from
responses here and elsewhere it appears this has fallen flat.  I've
actually seen some right-wing fundamentalists who took this seriously.

So nevermind.

how do you know it's a joke?

the U.S is the western world's stronghold of religious fundamentalism. you see and hear opinions like this all the time - and they're dead serious! so unfortunately, there is no reason to believe the author was joking (unless you KNOW they were joking).

Yes..she was "joking"

Personhood says life begins at fertilization so the amendment applies the concept to sperm as well as eggs.  I think it's brilliant.   So if made legal then....
That means no MALE masturbating although female masturbating would be legal.
No wet dreaming. No blow jobs or facials or pulling out and coming on your lady's stomach, dudes. No gay sex, unless a vagina's around to catch the precious seed. No Boston cream
pies.

The State Senator later willingly withdrew the amendment, telling her colleagues that she had introduced it to highlight the ridiculous  sexism inherent in a Personhood Law that would force women to be pregnant.

ok, so if a doctor refuses to give an abortion, it's the same as f i beating her up?

one could argue that in some cases neglect of a persons health and safety equals assault, but you can't put it in the law. f example, if i'm sick and need medicine, but my friend who's supposed to bring it to me willfully neglects it to do something else, i could report her for physical assault. no.

Yes if her willfull actions

Yes if her willfull actions resulted in your injury.

Life does begin at conception but it's under the soveriegn control of the person who's pregnant not any government. So recognising that and providing safe termination is the best course of action regardless of what us people who aren't pregnant think.
