The C Word - Friend or Foe?
This is one area I disagree with Betty on (perhaps the only thing?). I think the C word sounds harsh, vulgar, has been hijacked for male lead insults and does nothing to help celebrate the beauty and mystique of the vagina. I think it does little (if anything) to help empower the sexuality of the female form and wondered what others, particularly other women thought.

I agree that it's unfortunate that the word has been hijacked as a term of abuse but the word in itself is beautiful.
Cunt is the only word that describes the whole of a woman's sex. Vaginas are not on display because they are internal whereas 'cunt' includes the labia, clitoris and all the wonderful bits that makes this area so special.
I think Betty is right to use the word. Let's reclaim cunt as an object of beauty not an insult.
As an author I have to totally reject the idea that there's "only one word."
It's just not true.
You proved it yourself, bare, by using the word "sex" as a synonym.
The appropriateness of any given word depends on the context.

I don't think the issue here was whether Betty is right to use the word, obviously she can do what she chooses. Personally, I find it harsh and very unfeminine and totally at odds with the beauty within.
Of course Betty is right in using the 'cunt' word. To me it is one of the most emotive and sexually arousing words in the dictionary. Like Bare states, it covers every aspect of the female sex organ. I mean, what other word would either partner want to use during love-making. I think that the word 'pussy' is a very poor substitute.
I personally do not utilize the "C" word in my vocabulary. But, I have to admit when my wife uses it when we are making love, it certainly makes it sensuously and significantly more arousing for me.
I personally find 'cunt' to be a beautiful and descriptive word. It's my personal perference to use 'cunt' rather than 'pussy' (such a strange comparison) or 'vagina' (which only describes part of the area) when talking about my genital region. Although I like the related word 'queynte' as well, which Jackie Adshead, the erotic artist, uses to title her collection of fanny paintings.
Only by reclaiming cunt and using it as it's meant to be - a describing and naming word rather than an insult - will it be recognised and loved.

I've only just discovered this post and was about to do one on the same subject. Anyway, I have to agree with Miss Moonlight that the word "cunt" as a name for female genitals is harsh and vulgar. Maybe it is just a British thing that it is used to insult another human being and to be honest, I have used it myself when complaining about someone's inadequacies. Most British males prefer to use pussy rather than cunt when referring to female genitals. It seems to be a rather softer way to describe something so beautiful and it is, to me at least, the most beautiful part of a woman's body.
