Betty Dodson with Carlin Ross
Better Orgasms. Better World.
Rick Santorum’s latest pronouncement is that porn must die. He believes there’s a pandemic of harm being suffered in America because of porn.
He has it ass backwards, but let me explain.
I’m a child of technology. Porn often drives the development of new technologies. It always has. If there were drawings or carvings, there was porn. When photography was invented, some of the very first photos were of sex. Same with motion pictures. Why? Because we are sexually social mammals. We find endless fascination in nakedness and sex.
What we call “porn” is really about capturing all the sexual things us humans like to do onto some artistic medium or another. It’s only recently that technology has allowed us to record the stuff we used to do behind closed doors–and upload it immediately for the world wide web to see.
And here’s where it gets really interesting. Suppose you shoot something sexual on your phone. You loose your phone, the movie gets out - you are now a porn producer. Had a private sex tape stolen–same thing. Once we head down this slippery slope, there will be all kinds of interesting cases of regular people being considered producers of porn.
If Santorum wins the Oval Office - and aggressively prosecutes porn producers as promised– then he better increase the budget for prisons too– for every town, every neighborhood and every apartment building.
