Cunt vs. Pussy

Ok, I’m going to say it: I prefer the word cunt to pussy.

I prefer it in conversation, and I prefer it in bed.

I don’t want you to lick my pussy; I want your face in my cunt.

Now, I knew that this was not the majority’s preference, but it seemed to me that it wasn’t such a radical word choice. But perhaps that’s because I’ve been a lesbian for so long. My friends were mostly split on the word, but even the ones who didn’t care for cunt, didn’t usually, actively, think the word was vile.

But now I’ve been moving more in heteroville, and talking sex with a wider range of people than my crunchy, green, lesbian mom friends, and it seems that my love of the word cunt is… not widely shared. That the word cunt is hated by quite a few. And I just don’t understand that.

For me, the word cunt is strong and bold, decisive and hard. Powerful. Fierce. Uncompromisingly sexual. I am woman HEAR MY VAGINA DENTATA ROAR!

Pussy is… soft, malleable, weak, dismissible: wussy, sissy, fussy, mussy. And it can also refer to a tame kittykat. Ugh.

Slowly I’m getting used to people referring to my cunt as a pussy. But I don’t have to like it. I don’t have to encourage it. I tolerate it.

Then someone brought up the fact that cunt is, for most people, one of the most derogatory words you can call a woman. How can I like it when it’s used so negatively, has such baggage? And I say to them: you think cunt is offensive? You think cunt indicates disrespect? You think cunt is worse than pussy? Think about it.

Cunt might be insulting, but pussy is condescending. Who gets called a cunt? Ball-busting, mean-ass, hatchet-hard women who have seriously pissed you off. Actually gotten so far under your skin that you’ll pull out that word to try and shame them, demean them, get back at them, put them in their place — beneath you. Or, because those qualities in women are despised, women who are simply doing what they need, or want, to do, that inconveniences or pisses someone off, someone who wants to shame them into behaving properly and is willing to tear them down in order to do it.

There’s a lot of power and energy there, in that exchange, in that word being thrown out. It takes a lot of power to piss someone off OR to pull someone down. But whose power it is is up for grabs. In the end, a real cunt doesn’t care, does she? She doesn’t care what you think or what you say to her. She might even be enjoying it. She’ll keep doing what she’s doing and what matter that you’re raging at her?

Oooh, poor baby, did I piss you off enough to call me cunt? GOOD, you fucking pussy.

See the difference between the words, now?

Now, I’m curious. Which word do you prefer?

And, because this thought process all started with a woman bringing a cartoon to my attention, I thought I’d link to the cartoon for your entertainment. Enjoy!

I dislike both, I'd simply go

I dislike both, I'd simply go with vagina. But maybe that's because I'm not a native English speaker.

I use both words

I use both cunt and pussy and I like them both. Unfortunately, as you point out, the word cunt is also consindered one of the most offensive words in the English language so a lot of women tend to find it a derogatory name for their vulva. But I never use the word for anything other than my...cunt.

love this line

I 'get' how one may be offended by it, but I couldnt care less about what others think about what comes out of my mouth. I use cunt like I use the word fuck. often and with distinct intention. :)

If someone calls me a cunt I say thankyou and you use the word for the thing that brought you lfe and created you as an insult!? I never use cunt as an insult unless it's wanted in that way in an intimately sexual context.  And I like it because it describes the vulva and vagina together so is clit aware and the clitorus is the central sex organ. A fucking cunt is a beautiful person that fucks. Fuck is satisfying to use while it's still unbroadcastable. Cunt has loads of negative power socially but not for me personally, it has exiting, daring sexual positive power. If someone calls me a cunt I cant help in that milisecond but think of nice soft lovely  lickable vulvas, so they might as well have called me a strawberry or a dark chocolate egg, or told me they hate me so much they should really give me £5000. When I hear someone calling someone else a cunt rather than to their face (which is a lot more usual) I say no, cunts are nice, asshole is so much more appropriate.

Or this one:

I prefer pussy as a term

Tue, 11/01/2011 - 21:07

You make a very good point Kasini, but the word cunt is kinda sharp in my mouth and ears. I just don't like the way it rolls off the tongue or sounds.  To me, pussy is more playful and soft. Like a cat, she's soft, furry, independent and aloof. But when I'm having partner sex and it's a really good dirty nasty fuck session, I probably wouldn't mind it as much. Of course when the orgasms are coming one after another, hell, give my vulva a nickname you found in a tax code book, I don't care.

Yes, Cunt

Love the blog. Fun and true. I'm all for wrestling the word cunt back from the darkside. The word has a fullness in my mouth, a sensual strength when delivered. And what a sweet diminutive form, cunny. Strong and sweet, the word can express the breadth of what it is to be feminine.

I love the word CUNT and I do prefer it to pussy and vagina but I use all three...though I never use vagina during sex curiously enough *grin*

Laci Green is sex positivity incarnate...she rocks my fucking world

Kasini I think you would also like the book CUNT by Inga Muscio (you may know it already). It explains the etymology of the word cunt as opposed to the word vagina in it's opening chapter. Cunt has ancient, postive and powerful etymological roots as well as the modern derisive ones for the female genitalia. Vagina's origin is "sheath for a sword". D.H. Lawrence loved the word cunt too...it's the best thing about Lady Chatterly's Lover me thinks.

I have no problem with the word cunt. I have very similar views on the word as you. Its strong, powerful and badass. For far too long people have been trying to steal power from women because they were/are a bunch of scared little boys (for the most part. I'll never understand female mysoginy). So rock the word and the one you're born with!

Reclaim the cunt! I love the word cunt, hate the word pussy. Pussy just sounds so slimy and musty-smelling. Cunt is strong and forceful and sexy.

Prefer cunt, but pussy ended up more familiar.

I prefer the word cunt. When I think of my vag in my head, I either call it my cunt or (as just used) my vag. But sexually, pussy has ended up being more familiar, because partners have used that word to refer to my ladyparts, my partners tend to prefer pussy for their own ladyparts, and most of the porn I watch and use (which, I might add, is pretty much exclusively sex-positive, queer, and feminist) tends to use pussy. It's taken some word to claim cunt as much vocally as I do mentally.

I've enjoyed the word cunt

I've enjoyed the word cunt since I learned what it meant. Cunt is power. Cunt is straightforward. Cunt doesn't beat around the bush (see what I did there?) Pussy sounds like I'm talking about your damned cat

Sounds so nice to say cunt again

As a guy, I always preferred cunt, but in recent years sex positive women seemed to go for pussy.  I hope cunt comes back.

Third generation use of Cunt

Sun, 07/15/2012 - 07:06

I grew up in a nudist home where the word cunt was openly used in reference to genitalia on a regular basis.  My husband was initially surprised by it but quickly took to using it as he knew I loved it and now loves saying it as well.  Now with a family (nudist) of my own, I have taught our two kids to use cunt.  Its so cute.  I think its a great word and love using and hearing it. Yes, cunt is so beautiful and powerful. It demands respect and attention. You have to listen to your cunt. I believe in cunt wisdom. It's true and honest and deserves to be listened. I refuse all other words. Pussy makes me think of demeaning porn. Cunt is strong and real and empowering. I love your post.

As a man, I love and am turned on beyond belief by the word cunt.  My wife is uncomfortable with it but when she uses it I am hers.  With me it's a bit of a fetish, but a positive one.  Pussy is ridiculous while vagina is medical.  Cunt evokes eveything a beautiful, sexy part of a female body should evoke.

I love the word cunt. Have you ever read "Lady Chatterly's Lover" it's a beautiful word therein. It is also a great companion word for cock. Cunt and cock they sound great together and they are both strong words.

CUNT can be used affectionately during sex. In the UK they use CUNT differently, even calling guys CUNTS in a positive way. The people that are offended by CUNT should read more about it and be more open to progress. CUNT is progress. Be free to speak as you wish.
