Betty Dodson with Carlin Ross
Better Orgasms. Better World.
I was pleased with all the nice responses I got about the topic of masturbation the other day, and here's an addendum to it:
Liandra said that when she was a girl that she had some misinformation about masturbation (hair growing on the palm of her hand, etc.), and I grew up hearing that as well. One extra twisted piece of information I got from church, was that if you (and this was tailored to the guys) masturbated, that you'd soon run out of sperm and be sterile, and be unable have kids someday.
I'm not kidding. This is what I was told. Talk about laying on the guilt! The thing is, though, I liked masturbating so much already, that I didn't stop. I do remember having a little guilt about each load of cum I left behind (thinking about the kids that I'd never have), and making some vague vow to never do that again until I was married, but, I eventually did it, anyway. A few years later, of course, I found out that that piece of fucked-up advise had been totally bogus all along.
Religion, like Carlin said in she and Betty's video, screws up so much. I have tried to give better advise to my kids. I told them, in essence, that as long as they get their homework done each night, they could masturbate as much as they liked; and, I am proud to say, they've tuned out to be good people. I was determined that they wouldn't carry around inside their heads all that Bronze Age nonsense that I struggled with for decades! It worked beautifully, I am happy to say. Thanks all for the great feedback.
Edgerman, thanks for the topic . . .
Misinformation and religious threats regarding masturbation are still very important topics. I'd have been quite alarmed about growing hair in odd, publicly visible places or running out of sperm! The threat I personally got ("You will burn in Hell for all eternity!") was more than enough to terrify me for many years. The Catholic Church specializes in graphic, sick, sadomasochistic imagery and explicit threats of Hell, combined with endless tales of the tortures the saints endured for their beliefs. The nuns recounted these tales of torture to us seven-year-olds with an almost sexualised, fascinated attention to detail---some kind of very sick substitute for healthy eroticism.
I also remember the Boy Scout manual of those days, which darkly hinted at the shamefulness of masturbation, and stated that any "real boy" would stay away from something as unmanly and unacceptable as playing with themselves.
why did you believe it?
They gave me a Bible when I was confirmed. I read it. There is nothing about masturbation in it. Onanism is about a man not wanting to impregnate his sister-in-law, which would have probably PO'd his wife if he had. The Bible has lots of sex in it. I loved reading it as a teenager.
Hi, interesting topic. For
Hi,
interesting topic. For the record, I'm 67 years old, married for 43 years and have been a masturbation tragic since I was 12 years old. In that time I reckon I've masturbated and ejaculated around 16,000 times which would produce enough semen to fill 2 bathtubs (160 litres).
I still masturbate regularly and while my ejaculation is more ooze than spurt these days and my volume is less, I still enjoy a wonderful personal sex life.
Cheers
Lawesy
They told me if I masturbated I'd run out of sperm
Agreed, most religions(Hinduism would be an exception here) have little to offer in terms of understanding our sexuality outside of the reproductive paradigm. Hence, most religious dogma predicates that we sleep with our arms outside the covers lest we fall into the vice of the masturbation sin and its plethora of destructive maladies. Of course, hair growth on hands is just one of many misconceptions about masturbation fostered by church and ignorant parents. However, there is something to be said about sexual excess, whether it be solo or paired. The sex glands are part of our marvelous endocrine system, the array of 7 glands that produce hormones regulating all our body functions. The sex glands have the unique position of being the only endocrine that can be coaxed to withdraw(ejaculate) its hormone and semen production. Excessive ejaculation can lead to sexual hypoactivity, or diminished function of the sex glands. The effect doesn't stop there. Excessive ejaculation can lead to a chronic shortage of the nutrients in the bloodstream used by the other endocrines and the brain to elaborate their respective fluids. The bottom line is that it is not healthy to excessively ejaculate. The body needs a refractory or rest period in between orgasms to normalize body functions.
