Senate Has Enough Votes to Block Stupak-Pitt Amendment

I am really starting to love Senator Barbara Boxer.  According to Boxer, the Senate has enough votes (60) to defeat the Stupak-Pitt amendment which bans coverage for abortions if insurance companies receive one penny in government subsidies:

"If someone wants to offer this very radical amendment, which would really tear apart [a decades-long] compromise, then I think at that point they would need to have 60 votes to do it," Boxer said. "And I believe in our Senate we can hold it."

"It is a much more pro-choice Senate than it has been in a long time," she added. "And it is much more pro-choice than the House."

Abortion IS Part of My Health Care

I've been watching the health care debate and all the statements about abortion.  I do believe that Nancy Pelosi was torn about the Stupak-Pitts Amendment barring women from using their insurance to pay for abortions (if your policy is subsidized by the government by a penny then you can't use it to get an abortion) and having to concede to conservatives to get the new healthcare bill through the house.

But hearing Obama state publically that "this is a healthcare bill not an abortion bill' has my panties in a bunch.  As a young woman, abortion is part of your health care.  No form of birth control is 100% and women choose not to become mothers because they can't afford it and they know that being a single mom relegates you to a life of poverty.  So you make the choice.  And why is that choice NOT part of my healthcare but the choice to have a child IS?

Betty's Potty Mouth Gets a Thumbs Up

Betty Dodson original sketch

For my friends who often accuse me of having a "Potty mouth" or request that "I tone down my use of four letter words" or the time back in 1974 when Gloria Steinem said absolutely NO four letter words in my masturbation article for Ms. along the numerous times I've been told I'd reach a much larger audience if I cleaned up my language, I say, "Read this feminist critique of my sex coacing please!":

This research focuses on Betty Dodson's speech, "Sex Coaching". While the intended audience was composed of therapists and psychologists, the value of this rhetoric is for every woman. The content focuses on female masturbation; how to do it, what to call the anatomy, and why it is so important. Masturbation is generally a hushed-up topic, particularly for women. Historically, it has simply not been appropriate to speak about it, much less admit to doing it.

Brazilian Student Expelled for Pink Mini-Dress

Not only was she expelled, but she was escorted out heckled by her classmates. Then the university took out newspaper ads challenging her "morality". Shocking.

Demi Moore Brings Out the Cougar in All of Us

First it was Demi and Ashton and now Madonna is right behind her with Jesus (actually I think Betty played the cougar card with Eric before Demi and Madonna).  They've personally nabbed two of the hottest men in Hollywood who are 15-20 years their "junior" with 0 apologies.

According to a new study, these women have changed the way we all feel about dating younger men. Back in 2005, just 8 per cent of single women in their 40s and 50s said they would date a man five or more years their junior.  Today, more than a third said they would consider a younger man.

Sgt. Kimberly Munley To the Rescue

I'm sure you've heard about the crazed gunman at Fort Hood who went on a shooting rampage.  Well, this is the woman who brought him down...literally.  Sgt. Kimberly Munley is an expert in firearms and a member of the local police SWAT team.  She was on her way to take her car into the shop when she heard about the shooting on her police radio.  She raced to the scene, jumped out of her car - gun drawn - and exchanged direct fire with Nidal Malik Hasan and took the motherf*cker out.  Don't worry...she's fine but she did get shot in both thighs and in the right wrist.

Mary J Blige Opens Center for Women in Yonkers

I love Mary's music because it's so real. On October 23, 2009 The Mary J. Blige Center for Women opened right here in Yonkers. The Center will focus on reaching out to young, single mothers who need help with parenting, education, and vocational training. I cried when I watched this video:

Shula: Our Pole Dancing Researcher & Relationship Expert

I met Shula at the Vulvagraphics show and knew immediately that she was "Dodson & Ross" material.  It was the black bustier, the red hair, and her brilliant mind.  She'll be blogging on body image/sexuality and relationship issues.  Here's her full bio:

Shula Melamed holds a B.S. in Communication from Boston University and a M.A. in Psychology from the New School for Social research.

It is from a variety of experiences, not only academic, but also professional and social that allows for Shula to speak on a number of topics regarding relationships, sexuality and self-presentation with some authority.

New Test Predicts How Long You Can Put Off Motherhood

A new DNA test given to women as young as 18 can predict how long you have left to start a family.  At 36, I would totally have this fertility test done and know exactly how long my eggs were fertilizable.  Then I wouldn't have to hear my mother scare me with infertility stories.  God, I love science.

The breakthrough follows the discovery of a gene called Fragile X that indicates the rate at which a woman's egg supply will diminish over the years.

Professor Norbert Gleicher, of the Centre for Human Reproduction in New York, said: 'We can take an 18 or 20-year-old girl and check her Fragile X and make a pretty good prediction of whether she's at risk.'

Is Gossip Girl Kiddie Porn?

I never watch Gossip Girl but thought about tivoing an upcoming episode when I saw the famed "threesome" promo.  The Parents Television Council flipped penning a letter to the CW network calling the promo "reckless and irresponsible".

I liked the promo because it was the first time I've seen a threesome tease involving one woman AND TWO MEN.  "Serena" (Blake Lively) is clearly the woman in the man sandwich but you have no idea who the two men are....that's the point I think.

Meet Lawrence

Meet Lawrence Lanoff - our new blogger on all things religious, cultural, tantric, and in desperate need of demythologizing.  Betty and I met Lawrence during our "Tantra Weekend" and I knew we had to have him write for the site.

He has quite the pedigree starting his career in film (he directed over 10 feature films - I know) then shifting gears to direct films for Playboy, start his own beauty company specializing in non-smudging lip color (he sold a ton at the swinger conventions), and find himself teaching the finer points of sexual liberation and personal growth.

What I love most about Lawrence is his ability to question, his willingness to engage, and his appreciation for all things woman.  And you're going to love him too!

Orgasm Inc.

Liz Canner took a job editing erotic content for a drug trial for a pharmaceutical company developing the "Lady" viagara. Her experiences are chronicled in a new documentary Orgasm Inc:

Sex in the News

The latest greatest:

A new study finds that men would rather look at your ass than your smile (yay for me).  Seems they prefer butterfaces (everything but her face) for sex and beautiful faces for long term relationships.

The Irish lilt was voted sexiest accent beating out French for the first time.  Give me some South African and I cream.

USAToday reports that gay couples are just like straight couples - they "couple" at the same age, make the same $, and have the same number of children.

Juicy Pink Box: Hot Lesbian Taxi Sex

I met Jincey Lumpkin at a special event at Kiki De Montparnasse. We met for lunch @ Park and she told me about the lesbian porn she was producing and now it's here. It's the best butch/femme lesbian sex-in-the-back-of-the-cab ever:

"Dracula" Therapy Better Than Botox?

There's a new cosmetic therapy out that is a bit macobre.  It's called the "Dracula" therapy and it involves injecting your own blood into your face (at least it's not toxic like botox). The idea is that a doctor draws vials of your own blood, then separates it into the red blood cells, the clear serum and the platelets. Then, after vitamins and amino acids have been added, the enriched serum is injected back into your face.

This stimulates DNA repair, heals scars and makes dry, wizened, wrinkled and lacklustre skin look and feel younger naturally, without the need for synthetic fillers or harsh and painful lasers or peels.  Dentists have been using serum therapy for years to treat gum disease.
