For the Love of Labia

I have often read that the labia minora are constructed from the tissue (during development) that would make up the scrotum in a male fetus. However, When I hear labia discussed in our culture, they seem to remind me much more (in public perception) to the ideas we have about the male foreskin. Interestingly, the labia and the foreskin play the same role, protecting the urethral and reproductive tract.

In your love letter to your labia.. I was immediately aware of my love for my foreskin.. I could almost replace every use of your word "labia" with the word "foreskin". I felt I was able to completely understand what you meant, and the way you immediately jumped to the line "I would never cut them away from my body. NEVER." I get that.

I totally agree with you about the beauty of labia. They are beautiful. People often fail to understand how beautiful delicate folds of skin can be. They are unique and oh, so sensitive. Without labia... a vulva loses so much of its personality. To completely lose the labia is to make the vula robotic, cookie-cutter, and boring. That isn't to say smaller labia are not appeciable, because they too are unique. If every woman had the same size labia, that too would become boring. There is not just ONE beautiful.

I loved this post. I am so glad when I read women who know how to appreciate an often misunderstood, misrepresented beautiful part of themselves. I hope you can inspire many more women to appreciate their natural, whole, and intact labia. If only there were more men writing publically about foreskin too. Too many boys are growing up ashamed because they are natural, whole, and intact. That must change.
