Hubby Hubby Ice Cream to Celebrate Gay Marriage

What about an ice cream flavor for gay women....like double couchie crunch?

One of Ben and Jerry's most popular ice creams 'Chubby Hubby' will be sold under the new name 'Hubby Hubby' for the month of September to celebrate gay marriage in the company's home state of Vermont.

Ben and Jerry's Ice cream thinks the state of Vermont's decision to issue marriage licences to same-sex couples which came into effect Tuesday is a good reason to celebrate.

Ben & Jerry's aims to raise awareness of what it calls the "importance of marriage equality." And to show support for the legislation they will serve "Hubby Hubby" sundaes in Vermont Scoop Shops throughout the month of September.

The celebration is being promoted in partnership with Freedom to Marry, a gay and non-gay partnership working to win marriage equality nationwide.

Since being founded by two former hippies in Burlington, Vermont in 1978 the company has maintained a free thinking reputation even since it's sale to food giant Unilever in 2000 reports the Telegraph.

Walt Freese, Chief Executive Officer of Ben & Jerry's said in a press release, "At the core of Ben & Jerry's values, we believe that social justice can and should be something that every human being is entitled to. From the very beginning of our 30 year history, we have supported equal rights for all people. The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction and something worth celebrating with peace, love and plenty of ice cream."

The Hubby Hubby ice cream flavor consists of pretzel nuggets, which are covered in fudge and filled with peanut butter, in a vanilla malt ice cream base, which is itself swirled with fudge and peanut butter throughout.

Iowa, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire have already passed legislation legalizing same-sex marriage while California's law allowing same-sex unions was overturned following a referendum.
As reported by the Telegraph, earlier this year Ben and Jerry's marked Barack Obama's election as US president by renaming one of its nutty ice cream flavours "Yes Pecan".
