Brave in whose service?

There's no question that women have always been brave. The ancient Romans were often unnerved when fighting the Celts because the Celtic women would join the battles and wield their swords and axes just as ferociously as the men.

Those ancient Celtic women were freedom fighters battling an invading foreign power. But as many of us realize, the trend in the United States is increasingly to use the military (and military women) not for genuine self-defense but to prosecute aggressive wars that are illegal according to international law and are 'justified' on the basis of outright lies. This was the case in Iraq. I can only speak for myself, but I look forward to the day when men and women alike will refuse to take up arms to do the bidding of governments that care only for power and economic supremacy and nothing for human life. That would be truly brave.
