What's With All the Thigh Gap Tumblr Blogs?

I was surfing around yesterday and stumbled across the infinite number of "thigh gap" tumblr blogs. There are thousands of them.

The first time I heard about the thigh gap phenomenon was when my boyfriend suggested I'd look "super hot" if I had a thigh gap.  This whole conversation started because I'd had the stomach flu for two weeks and couldn't keep anything down.  As I was walking to the bathroom doubled over he announced, "you almost have a thigh gap".  I told him he'd look super hot if he lost the 10 extra pounds he was carrying around.

Yes, some women have the thigh gap body type.  Most are pubescent (I think that's part of the allure).  But it's kind of crazy that this is the body ideal young girls want in an era of rampant eating disorders and social media.  Half the photos you see online are photoshopped.

I'm never going to let anyone photoshop a thigh gap on any of my pictures.

the bizarre thigh gap

I had no idea this was something idealized. I've always found it a really weird look for women (normal for girls), and can't believe there are men who want this. Thigh gap and no pubic hair? What is it about tumblr? Sex is not the enemy is pretty cool -- a lot of photos are real people and are very charming. But the foreskin blog was creepy; young, white, pretty, heavily made-up women with cocks stuck in their faces. I love to look at (as well as everything else) penises, but this blog was a turnoff. It just seemed like boring porn.

Well, this is a new one on me. Another fetish that would never even have occurred to me. Seriously, what's next?

Baron, usually the only way this look is possible for grown women is if they are extremely thin. Read Carlin's post, how only after two weeks of illness did she begin to have a "thigh gap." We don't need any more "looks" that put pressure on women to obsess over their weight and it's about time we accept how grown-up women look in all their beauty. Their thighs meet, they have pubic hair, their breasts may not be perky (how I despise that word), they do not look like adolescent girls. And what grown-up man would want them to?
