Covering Penises at the Leopold Museum

This famous photograph called Vive La France is part of a new exhibition at the Leopold Museum - "Nude Men".

The museum has agreed to cover the penises with red ribbon due to public outrage:

"We didn’t realise that many, many people would be really upset or really angry in a way that we are also afraid about security, about protection of the visitors of the museum” explained Klaus Pokorny, a spokesperson for the museum, as quoted in Reuters.

“Many people told us that they wanted to or had to protect their children,” he added about the response to the naked advertisements. “Some had warned that if we won’t cover it they would go there with a brush and they would cover it with color. Already somebody did that.”

Genital shame is universal.

One doesn't often get to see such lovely looking men, but it's a shame they had to cover up their feet, let alone their penises!

...guess they don't like sausage after all (-_-;)

There is something seriously wrong with society's shame about nudity. While the pic is clearly screaming "hello, look at us, we're starkers!" it's so non-sexual I don't see what's wrong with it, especially considering we're all born in that state (less the boots and stockings).
We spend far too much energy trying to get our kids to "put that thing away," "don't play with that" and "don't you dare look at that!" then suddenly expect them as adults to be full of positive body image and sexy confidence. This shows you just how many people are having hard time loving their bodies and other's really - why work like you amazing ladies do is so important.
I love you all, proud-to-stand-naked-before-others-without-being-a- creepy-sex-offender people! <3
