Better Orgasms. Better World.
The fashion world was shocked when model Carmen Dell'Orefice stopped dying her hair and let it go white.
No one understood why she would accept the aging process. Turns out it was in direct defiance of her husband:
"He leaned over in bed, and he pulled out a white hair. I thought, No. No! I am your wife that you love so much? How dare he?" So I let my hair grow in."
Talk about self respect. I love this woman. Some boundaries should never be crossed. And she's sexy as hell with that white hair.
I'm hoping that I can go silver gray and then white like Carmen when I get older. I'm so not dying my hair as I age. Last night I was at a cocktail party and this woman walked over to me with silver white hair. It took my breath away. I complimented her hair and she told me how people have violent reactions to it - friends, co-workers, strangers feel free to tell her that she should dye her hair.
It's interested that we don't feel the same way about men. How many white haired men do you pass on the street? How many are in Congress? But a woman who's confident and accepts the aging process - someone who's coloring outside the lines - arouses such a visceral reaction. We're not just objects to admire...we're real people.
graying hair, silver foxes, bring on the age!
Dear Carlin, For the last couple of years I've been touting a Mohawk style doo. I essentially removed my thicker side hair and left the thinning hair on top which on its own then looked darker and thicker. This also made me look and feel younger as well as jiving with my 'unique' character. I've now decided to liberate all my follicles to strut their stuff and consequently found swaths of gray circling my ears and cascading down the nape of the neck. Then I decided to apply a perennial gardening principle of mine: cut back withering foliage in order to highlight the healthy flowering plants, ergo, I shaved the gray leaving a 'helmet' of dark hair adorning my head. The jury is out on this one. Last night I decided to readmit the gray to the coiffure, even strap on some sideburns to see what gives. So, here's a toast to you and your article that speaks beautifully to how aging with grace is sexy.
