Charlize Theron Shaved Her Head....Yes

Now I know it's for a movie...but still it's super fucking hot.  Hair is such a sexual cue for women and when we shave it off it's like saying f*ck you I'm not playing the game (and you'd still f*ck me).  

Betty and I were talking last night about why she shaved her head in the 70's (after 2 hours of live sex questions for "In Bed with Betty & Carlin" and a bottle of wine).  She shaved her head to protect herself.  There were so many political assassinations: JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X - then Anne Koedt received several death threats when she published The Myth of the Vaginal Orgasm.  The "out" feminists became a target too.

It freaked Betty out so she decided to go androgynous.  It's still my favorite Betty look:

to shave our head or pubes or arm pits or what ever we decide to do, doesn't change the fact that we're who we are and our hair and body belongs to us.

I shaved my head when I was 26. It was amazing how differently I was treated in public especially if I dressed femme but showed my shaved head. I got no sexual advances from men at that time, in fact that attention was replaced by more hostile male sexual attention. It took longer to get drinks in bars and MANY random strangers would come up to me and tell me I would look so pretty if I just grew my hair or hasselled me for being a 'dyke'. It was the same irrational public reaction that I get when I have my underarm hair and my leg hair visible. It made me much more aware of how controlled women are by the expectations of how they present their bodies for gender conformity and just how unconscious people are of that control and how desparately they don't want you to disturb that unconscious control by not conforming to it. 

On the upside I found that once I had shaved my head femme bi/queer/pan women were suddenly attracted to me more often than they had been in the past. That more than made up for the shit I was getting from the fellas.
