A Courtesan & A Feminist

“I have never deceived anybody because I have never belonged to anybody. My independence was all my fortune, and I have known no other happiness.” - Cora Pearl

She was the most famous courtesan in Paris. Born Emma Crouch in 1835, Cora Pearl may not have been the most conventional beauty, but she charmed men with her daring sexuality, enviable body, wit and lust for life.

And she got it - it's not about being the most beautiful woman in the world. It's about being independent and living for yourself.

She is very  beautiful! I

She is very  beautiful! I love her ring with the chain going to a bracelet. Carlin thanks for telling me about her. I googled her and read her Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cora_Pearl

Living for yourself isn't the big message media gives women. If you take the movie the Wedding singer as an example the guy is the singer who gets to be interesting and confident and the woman is a fucking waiter :) Twilight should be about a fantastic and mysterious woman vampire who a man is fascinated by. All this cultural crapping on women has an effect on confidence. I have a feeling in Cora's day free from any media or photos you could carve out your own little private universe around you where you could be remarkable, without the constant daily comparison of how you should live or what you should look like screaming at you from pics of thin mums on cereal packets and ads and images everywhere all the time from when we get up to when you go to sleep everywhere marinating your brain all the time for decades relentlessly every day of your life.

As an example. In a small hunter gatherer tribe. Whoever you think is the most beautiful person in the tribe, will very literally be the most beautiful person you've ever seen in your life.

Good point about Twilight, there is a quote attributed to Stephen King that says how the Harry Potter stories are about fighting the good fight while the Twilight stories are about the importance of having a boyfriend. I really didn't care for the Twilight books. Actually I couldn't get through the first one without nearly barfing. Cora Pearl is beautiful, btw.
