Better Orgasms. Better World.
Thom Hartmann describes why Big Pharma is the Biggest Crook in America:
“The pharmaceutical industry is the single biggest defrauder of Americans taxpayers in history – surpassing the defense industry for the first time. As a 2010 Public Citizen report found: over the last twenty years the pharmaceutical industry has accounted for 25% of all violations of state and federal law when it comes to the False Claims Act. Among the crimes include illegally promoting drugs for purposes not approved by the FDA – which is a criminal offense since it can lead to serious illnesses – and even death.
Also, the pharmaceutical industry routinely overcharges federal programs like Medicaid for their prescription drugs – stealing billions of dollars from you, me, and other taxpayers. Since 1991 – over 165 pharmaceutical settlements with state and federal governments have led to $19.8 billion in penalties. According to Taxpayers Against Fraud – pharmaceutical companies are expected to pay out another $9 billion in fraud settlements this year. This is the consequence of a for-profit health care system in America – drug companies who are supposed to be manufacturing products to help us live longer and be healthier – are ACTUALLY more focused on screwing us than our well-being. It's time to join the rest of the developed world – create a non-profit healthcare system – and kick the money-changers out of our hospitals.”
As I enter my 84th year on Planet Earth the end of this August, I am still drug free except for pot and booze, and the occasional Advil PM. Otherwise its organic food, having lots of fun and loving what Carlin and I do on our website!
For-profit health care . . .
It has been said that a society's worth can be measured by how well it meets its citizens' basic needs and cares for its most vulnerable members. By these standards, the United States falls shamefully short. The rest of the developed world manages to provide health care for all. With the will to use some of our public money to actually help the public, we could manage it, too.
keeping people sick = $$$
How many decades have gone by with organizations raising money to find cures for MS, cancer, MD, etc., and still apparently no cures in sight...........
The American Medical Association and their bed-partner, the pharmaceutical industry can't get rich if people get well.
I recall a story told to me by a Homeopathic doctor I know, who had been been on teaching missions to China; teaching acupuncture.
He said that in China, a person pays their doctor regularly to keep them well. If the person gets sick, the doctor doesn't get paid.
My wife is a nurse in a geriatric care facility. Some of the stories she has told me.........
She thinks of her job description as being a "legal drug pusher". Some of the residents are on multiple meds, several times a day.
On the cost side, she told me about an elderly woman who can no longer go through the motions of swallowing, so she gets a complete balanced diet in liquid form. One liter given intraveinously twice a day.
The cost to this person via Medicare is in excess of $1000 per liter. Think about that.
On a personal note, the only time I come close to a medical professional is once a year when I get my PSA blood test done.
Quote:He said that in China,
Isn't that insurance ? :) with pro active wellness. If insurance companies were into proactive wellness they'd make more money or be able to offer reduce premiums.
Chinese medical "insurance"
I suppose one could look at it that way. Or, one might consider it a 'retainer' fee
