Why Does My Vagina Feel Uncomfortable the Day After Sex?

Lately I noticed that my vulva and vagina feels very uncomfortable the day after I have intercourse, this has crept up on me within the past couple of months. I have no discomfort during the act itself, use plenty of lube and clit stim with no porn star thrusting (we both gave up on that after having problems with abdominal cramping for me and a very sore back for him). I still find that the next day, it feels like there's a threat of a UTI and I'm kind of sore. Drinking lots of water and avoiding penetration for a few days seems to help. I think this is due to the fact I'm in my 40's and am not on any hormones. I've been with the same partner for over 16 years so I doubt it's him. I'm wondering if there's a better lube I can use because I really enjoy intercourse and partner sex. Penetration either with my partner or alone is an activity I can't enjoy as much as I used to unless I'm midcycle. I plan on talking to my GYN about this as well although I don't plan on any HRT at this point. Any advice on how to help a 43 year old woman continue to have combo orgasms would be greatly appreciated.

Dear L,

While you might be low on estrogen, I somehow doubt it. When and if you do decide to do some estrogen replacement, read my essay on this subject under Sex Features on the Navigation Bar. I still use an estrogen cream applied vaginally made from the soy bean plant. It's bio-identical to what our bodies once produced. I'll bet your Gynecologist will want to put you on some Big Pharma HRT. It's been shown to cause problems for some women by the National Women's Health Network. (www.nwhn.org)

You didn't mention what kind of additional lubrication you're using. I still use my favorite Almond Oil for vaginal lube. We no longer sell it but it's a Heritage product that you can get at your local health food store. I use it before and during partner sex. If you're using a water based lube check out the ingredients. They can be full of chemicals as a rule. Also urinating immediately after having intercourse is a good habit as it flushes out the urinary tract. Glad to hear you have abandoned the hard fast friction fuck of porn and congratulations on including your clitoris during penetration sex for a combo orgasm. You're way ahead of the curve.
