Any Recommendations for Chronic Yeast Infections?

Hi,

I've been reading your website for almost a year, since my friend posted a link on facebook about your bodysex groups. There's a topic that I would really like to see addressed, as I would like more information on it and I think others might as well. That topic is vaginal health.

I have had problems over the past 4 years with chronic yeast infections and unexplainable irritation around my labia minora during my period. Doctors have been largely unhelpful. I have slowly changed the things I allow to come into contact with my vagina, and only as I look back do I realize how many things that includes! Things have been a lot better for the past 4months, and I don't know what thing or combo of things has done the trick, but I am hoping it continues.

What I have started using:
- cotton underwear
- hypoallergenic, biodegradable laundry detergent
- kotex pads and ob tampons, the lowest potential for irritation according
to a doctor - silicone menstrual cup was just purchased, excited to replace
pads&tampons completely
- phthalate-free silicone sex toys
- herbal, water-based lubricant

Is there anything else you would recommend?

Thanks,

T

Dear T,

You are heading in the right direction with all the changes you've made. Congratulations! This is what I hope to see more women doing. Instead of turning to medical doctors who have been trained to prescribe meds, you became your own doctor. Your list is very good. Now you can think about diet. Yeast feeds on all sugars so that's the next front to look at. Keep us posted on your quest for vaginal health.

I think you are on the right track with the changes - I had similar trouble and here are a few more ideas for you to try.
Sleep without panties on - let your vulva breath.  If you take baths, don't use bubble bath or such - soak, then wash and get out rather than sit in the soapy suds.   Be absolutely certain that you clean up after sex.  Don't use fabric softner on your undies, air dry.

Pro-biotics

Hey,
I used to have exactly the same problem. I take all of the above steps, but in addition, I insert a pro-biotic capsule (with a "vege-cap" non gelatine exterior) directly into my vagina. I do this 3-4 times a week. Ever since, I have not had any issues with yeast infections. It is fantastic!
